Ports Authority Publishes First Throughput Figures

The Ports Authority of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published its first statistical release. The release covers the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, during which the ports operated under interim arrangements while their terminals, staff and records were transferred to the Authority, and records the position at establishment on 6 September 2026.

During the transition period the four ports received 186 vessel calls. The terminals handled 41,300 twenty-foot equivalent units of containers, 388,000 tonnes of dry bulk, 224,000 tonnes of liquid bulk, 46,500 tonnes of break-bulk and project cargo and 5,940 roll-on roll-off units, and the Southbank Ferry Terminal handled 28,700 passengers. Some 94 per cent of import containers were released at the gate within 48 hours of discharge, and the average dwell time of an import container was 3.1 days.

The Authority will publish statistics quarterly. The next release, covering the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be published in October and will be the first to report on the terminals under the Authority's own management.
