Ports Authority of the Velocity Interoperability Network Established

The Ports Authority of the Velocity Interoperability Network has been formally established. The Authority is responsible for the terminals, cargo handling and vessel movements at the four ports of the Network: the Port of Southbank, Northgate Harbour, Meridian Basin and Westbrook Wharf. It operates the terminals directly, acts as harbour master at each port, sets and collects port charges, and enforces the rules for the safe handling of cargo and the safe movement of vessels, vehicles and people within the ports.

With its establishment complete, the Authority today launches its official website at ports.gov.vin. The site carries press releases and official statements, the register of terminals and their berths, the rules for the handling of every class of cargo, the procedure by which shipping agents register with the Authority and give notice of arriving vessels, the schedule of port charges in force to 31 December 2026, and the rules of safety and security that apply within the ports.

The opening of the Authority's seven terminals, the handling rules and schedule of charges that take effect on 7 September 2026, and the Authority's first throughput figures are the subject of separate announcements published today. The opening date of the Eastfield Reach Terminal, which is under construction, will be announced in the Newsroom once it is fixed. General enquiries may be sent to contact@ports.gov.vin.
